Book 8 - Costume for Sport
- "Riding Habit, 1880-90, brown twilled wool; habit bodice, lightly boned, wrap-over skirt, shaped for knee; hat, brown felt, trimmed with brown silk ribbon. Beneath the skirt are long breeches of chamois leather. Cloth or skin breeches or trousers had been worn since the beginning of the century, although petticoat or petticoats were often worn as well, up to this time."
- "Dress, 1883-6, cotton, striped, mainly in shades of blue with pink and other colours; bodice and skirt with three hoops forming a bustle; hat, stiffened straw, cream silk ribbon band. There is no record that this dress was actually worn for tennis, but the comparative looseness of it’s lightly boned bodice suggests it."
